farmdoc's blog post number 583

G'day. I’m Kate’s dad. So it’s really important to me that I write this post on the My Collection theme that this week’s theme queen Kate selected for My Place and Yours over at Meet Me at Mikes. Courtesy of a lightning strike, I’ve had no internet connection from late last week until today. My link is the 90th. But better late than never.

I collect rocks. I’m a bushwalker. I bring back a rock from each walk I do. And I place it in an earthenware container that fills with rainwater trickling down a chain from a section of my roof. My rock collection is a collective souvenir from my walks. I don’t keep track of which rocks come from where. But I’ve collected them from Tasmania, Australia’s north island, New Zealand, UK and USA. Some of my friends know about my collection and bring me rocks from their walks. That’s cheating a bit. But how can I refuse them. Many of the 89 bloggers ahead of me on this week’s My Place and Yours have written about collecting old things. Though not a competitive fellow, I win. Some of the rocks in my collection – Ordovician limestone from walks on my property – are 450 million years old. Though old myself, I’m not that old! So I hope to add many more rocks to my collection in coming years.

Who doesn't love a rock collection? I collected them as a child and now my kids bring them back from everywhere. I had to convince them to let them "live" in our sandbox so I don't have cups of rocks all over the house. Thanks for playing!

You may be the 90th on the list but as far as I've seen, you have the first rock collection and first collection that didn't cost a cent (if you don't count the travel costs). I love you very much and am thrilled you are back on line and that you have played along. Have a great day! XX

I think this is a wonderful collection especially the way you store them!

Your collection rocks! (Sorry...)

We had an electrical storm here this morning and while I was keen to stay in bed in that dreamy it's-raining-outside reverie, I quickly got up and unplugged all our electricals. xx
