Today’s ‘List Friday’ list is TIME Magazine’s Heroes of the Environment 2009. I’m not a TIME subscriber let alone reader. I came across this list when writing yesterday’s post about Maldives President Nasheed. He’s on it. But, excluding Cameron Diaz, no-one else I’ve ever heard of is. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing: it’s bad because it means these people, and especially their work for the environment, hasn’t received much publicity (until they made TIME’s list, anyway). Conversely, it’s good if it means unheralded (until they made TIME’s list, anyway) people can do work having a major impact. Maybe I’m unusual because pre-list I’d heard of only two people on the list. Therefore, how many listees have you heard of? Be all this as it may, I reckon all those on the list would be content to remain low profile – because their main motivation’s to help the planet. But it’s great that their efforts are being recognised by TIME in its list published 2-3 weeks ago. By the way, I can’t find out how TIME arrived at its list. But I doubt that’s important. I salute the people on this list, and I hope their inclusion is positive reinforcement which increases their motivation to continue, and intensify, their work to improve our environment. For right now our planet needs all the help it can get. (Another list next Friday.)
