farmdoc's blog post number 542

For many years I’ve thought that madness and creative genius are closely linked. A fortnight ago I read here that scientists have confirmed the connection. They’ve found creative people have a gene – neuregelin 1 – which is linked to psychosis, depression and bipolar disorder. John M Brown (pictured) has an ordinary name. But he’s no ordinary man. By any yardstick. He’s a Texas-born oilman, and a Christian Zionist. And he’s convinced God gave the Jews a fair share of the Middle East’s massive fossil fuel deposits. So he’s devoted the past 26 years of his life to finding out where in modern Israel God hid the oil. And he’s using biblical references to guide his search which he’s called The Joseph Project. He’s crazy, you may say. But Mr Brown’s no fool. He’s head of Zion Oil & Gas which is listed on NASDAQ. See a video and download a podcast here. Whilst his search is partly based on the bible, it’s assisted by the very best science. Drilling began in 2005, and though to date no major discoveries have been announced, Mr Brown remains supremely optimistic. His stated aim’s to ensure energy independence for Israel. But I reckon another’s to prove the bible’s based on fact. Whichever aim’s true, and whether he’s a genius or a madman, I wish Mr Brown every success. Indeed I hope he’s successful beyond his wildest expectations.
