Here’s this week’s compendium. This week…
1. the Wisconsin Tourism Federation (contraction: WTF) changed its name to the Tourism Federation of Wisconsin (TFW) [1]. WTF!
2. Lucy O’Donnell, the woman who inspired The Beatles’ legendary song ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’ died aged 46 years [2]. Until now, I thought the song has something to do with lysergic acid diethylamide (aka LSD). Oh well…
3. ten Crown Casino directors, including chairman James Packer, face fines of up to A$14,000 each for fuelling of Carlton star Brendan Fevola’s drunken antics at the casino on Brownlow Medal night [3]. You watch. They won’t get anything like the maximum fine. I'll bet.
4. Parks Victoria originally announced that one of the Twelve Apostle rock formations had collapsed. Then they backtracked and said it was one of the Three Sisters [4] I’m not letting them anywhere near my sister. Because they might turn her into an apostle.
5. the Productivity Commission released a draft report on executive pay, which if it becomes law, will give shareholders greater influence over executive remuneration and company board appointments [5]. About bloody time. The people rule. OK.
6. Telstra, whose Sensis division owns the Trading Post, announced that publication would be solely online from November. The paper version had been published since 1966 [6]. Another Aussie icon bites the dust. eBay’s probably a lot to blame. It’ll be missed.
7. an Australian study was reported as concluding that sexual satisfaction may lead to greater well-being in women [7]. Has it occurred to the investigators that greater well-being may be the cause of increased sexual satisfaction. It’s a chicken-and-egg scenario, folks.
8. the best newspaper photograph I saw is this one [8]. No reasonable person could think otherwise. She’s so beautiful. And I’m so unbiased.
Finally, I wish you, dear Farmdoc’s Blog readers, a wonderful week.
