farmdoc's blog post number 148
Darling Abby doesn’t make decisions lightly. Sweetheart Vivienne and I farewelled her at Melbourne Airport on 25 July. But it wasn’t until last Thursday that she emailed from the Big Apple advising her new email address and telephone number. The next day by email I thanked her for the heads-up (and naturally added my love and kisses – I miss her so). Exactly 16 minutes later I received a return email: ‘hi roscoe. think of the craziness---I'm writing this on the A train to you there in mole creek. love and kisses. there’s my stop. A xo' Astonishing technology – Mole Creek to New York and back in 16 minutes; and all whilst she was on a train. And not just any train. I’ve never been on the A train; I’ve never even seen it. But I'm its friend – because of this song which Wikipedia says is among the 20th century’s 100 most important American musical works. The A train (8 Avenue Express) is a rapid transit service of the New York City Subway. Coloured blue on route signs, station signs, and the official subway map, it’s the longest one-seat ride in the subway system: over 50km from Manhattan to Queens. I’d be over the moon to ride the A train with Sweetheart Vivienne and Darling Abby. Hopefully it’ll happen in 2009. I can hardly wait.
