farmdoc's blog post number 52

This blog post is about two johns; but neither of them is named John. Both these johns are public figures, and married. Max Mosely, born in London in 1940, and Oxford educated, has since 1993 been President of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) – the peak body of motoring organisations and car users worldwide, and the governing entity of Formula One and other international motor sport. Mosely’s father, Sir Oswald, was leader of the British Union of Fascists. Hitler attended Mosely’s parents’ wedding. Eliot Spitzer, born in New York in 1959, and Princeton and Harvard educated, became Governor of New York in January 2007 after eight years as New York State Attorney General. On 10 March 2008 the New York Times reported that Spitzer was a client of a high-priced prostitution ring being investigated by the US Government. On 30 March 2008 the News of the World reported that Mosley had engaged in Nazi role playing and sexual acts with five prostitutes. On 12 March 2008 Spitzer did the honourable thing and resigned as Governor, citing private failings. Not only did Mosely not resign, but on 3 June 2008 an FIA motion of confidence in him received 103 votes in support and 55 against. No surprise there. One wouldn’t expect anything else from an organisation governing a so-called sport that commodifies women.
